Bathurst Resources to resubmit fast-track application for Buller Plateaux Continuation Project

This statement may be attributed to Richard Tacon, CEO, Bathurst Resources limited:

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has considered the completeness and scope of Bathurst Resources’ substantive fast-track application for the Buller Plateaux Continuation Project (the Project).

The EPA has determined under section 46 of the Fast-track Approvals Act 2024 that the application must address two further technical issues. The first relates to a wildlife approval, and the other concerns the consent of the manager of a reserve.

Bathurst is confident that it will be able to resolve these two matters in short order and will then resubmit the substantive application to the EPA. We welcome a thorough assessment and remain committed to progressing the Project.

The Project is important for Buller, the West Coast and nationally, with the potential to extend our mining operations in the region for up to 25 years. It will provide certainty for nearly 400 of our workers and their families, and continue to support contractors, service providers and businesses across the West Coast and throughout New Zealand.

Bathurst Resources have operated in the area for more than 15 years. We are committed to continue managing our effects while delivering significant economic and social benefits for both the West Coast and New Zealand.
